Amie Porter
My name is Amie, I have been overweight most of my life, but I had gradually let myself go over the past few years. It started when I was around 12 years old, I was never really taught nutrition or exercise, so naturally, as a child I ate what I wanted when I wanted. I started gaining faster than all of the other people my age and started feeling discouraged. The more discouraged I got the more I ate. I continued to gain weight all through high school. At 16, I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovaries) which causes an insulin deficiency in the body and makes you more prone to diabetes, but as a kid, I kept my unhealthy habits, not having a care in the world. Once I graduated I was working as a CNA at a local hospital and decided to step on the scale for fun. 205. That's what it read. I was so ashamed and disappointed in myself. As a woman who only stands 4"11' that weight was unacceptable for my future health. I shortly after got pregnant with my son, who is the light of my life. After giving birth I weighed 254lbs. That was my breaking point. I felt too big and too out of shape to play with him, teach him, help him reach milestones in his life, and even be a good mother at times. I was ashamed that I wasn't the mother that I could be. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and try to be better. After failed attempts of dieting, I had by some miracle got down to 224 by chasing a baby around and trying to at least be a little more conscious of my habits. My friend introduced me to the yoga after he learned of my failed attempts and in the first week alone I felt like a whole new person. I was limber, I had energy, and I honestly looked forward to getting up off the couch to do my workout. After a month I felt INCREDIBLE. But after 2 1/2 months, I've been doing it, I'm down 25 pounds and I feel INVINCIBLE. I feel empowered and in control of my own life for the first time ever, and I have DDPY to thank for that! If you're wondering if this is for you, I was an average couch potato stay at home mom who is now conquering her weight loss goals and feeling fantastic!!
